Regatta Update

Earlier in June the OCA announced the cancellation of the 2021 Regatta running race events & Government Dock aquatic events.  We have continued to monitor the situation and can now update that all 2021 Regatta events are cancelled with the exception of events 60-62 (Sailboat races).  This decision is conditional on Grey/Bruce remaining in stage 3 of reopening.  We will also be coordinating a virtual long distance run, and a virtual Children’s costume party.  Stay tuned for details on the virtual events.

The sailboat races will be held on their originally scheduled time of Sunday August 1st @ 1:30 p.m.  If you have access to a sailboat, this is THE year to participate! If you don’t have a sailboat, this year is a great year to watch the sailboat races while being out on the water.  The attached picture shows the race course with a suggested location to anchor your boats and take in the races.  If the weather is favourable, for 2021 we encourage you to come out and celebrate our community and Regatta while enjoying these shallow sandy waters with a perfect view of the start and finish line.  Please respect social distancing and be mindful of the race course.  The races take about 2-3 hours to run.

The sailboat races this year are being coordinated by Tyler Auger and Colin Lewis.  If you’re interested in participating, please register by emailing Colin Lewis (colin_rosie@hotmail.com).  Those who register will receive important updates including details on the revised Skippers’ Meeting.

Finally, I wanted to express thanks for the many years the sailboat races were coordinated by Gord & Priscilla Lister.  You’ve been key to our Regatta for as long as I can remember and our community is better for your dedication.
